The Light in Aquala
Chapter 10 · The New Sound
Somewhere beyond the roar of the waterfall, a new sound was heard, faint at first, then the unfamiliar tones started to become louder.
A deep, low howling sound grew in strength before suddenly stopping. It quickly started again, this time a combination of voices and howls.
It was much closer this time and lasted much longer before falling silent. The silence was almost worse than the sound.
The light was still there, bigger than ever and the sisters were frozen, their minds racing with questions that had no answers and not knowing what to do.
Mara knew that whatever they decided, it would change everything.
There was no going back from this moment.
No pretending they hadn't seen what they'd seen, heard what they'd heard. She looked at Lena, and her sister met her gaze.
Lena gave a small, almost imperceptible nod, a gesture that whatever decision they made, they would be in this together.
Mara turned back to the waterfall.
They needed to think very carefully about what they should do. This terrifying phenomenon was completely new. It needed to be studied, recorded. But something was telling them to run.
The choice was theirs.
But the consequences would affect to everyone.
